Don Iovino's
El Salto Bass Fishing Adventure!

May 2002 Update!

The fish you are about to see were caught in May, 2002 during a 30 day period of guiding at El Salto. The two gentleman, Ron Knight and Chris Stone of Texas were good guys as well as good fisherman. While the weather was hot at this time of year, the fishing proved to be even hotter!

These fish were caught using 20# test Sensation line, a 5/8 oz Weapon Swimming Jig in Chartreuse / Brown and a Yamamoto 5 inch Chartreuse Doubletail and 3/4 OZ. Blue / Chrome Rattletraps.

The fish were suspended in the channel and around isolated trees in 25 feet of water. Using Lowrance Electronics I was able to determine the attack depth on the suspended Bass. They were suspended about 10 feet over the 25 foot depth range when we found them. Casting the swimming jigs We did a countdown of 10 and started the retrieve and they hit like a bull going in the opposite direction!

This trip proved to be some of the finest fishing I have ever experienced in my 30 years plus of bass fishing! To be able to catch suspended fish of this size and quantity was an experience of a lifetime not only for me, but for Ron Knight and Chris Stone as well. If I told you how many fish we caught this trip, you wouldn't believe me anyway!

** Update **

I just returned from another guide trip during the month of November, 2002. While I thought I would never be able to duplicate that again, guiding L.E. Fowler and his son Lyton Fowler, I not only duplicated past achievments but surpassed them in one day of fishing with these two gentleman! We were using 5/8 oz Weapon Swimming Jigs with Yamamoto Double Tails on 20# test Sensation line. Again these fish were suspended, feeding on shad in deep water in the main channel.

You would not believe the amount of 10 pound fish we caught that day if I told you. The only people that know are the ones that were there. And when it was over and the sun was setting in the bueatiful Mexican sky, we could only conclude that it was a dream of a lifetime.

Tight Lines,
Don Iovino
